Incredible Crockpot Pot Roast No pre-browning, and only 1-2 minutes to get this lick your plate clean, 5 ingredient dinner going in the morning! It makes a delicious and rich, thick gravy with the pot roast! Don't let the surprise ingredient of : Ginger ale throw you off! I happen to use diet since my husband is diabetic. This recipe came from a local church cookbook, and I knew I had to try it as soon as a saw it.
Ingredients:
3-5 lb. pot roast (sirloin tip or other)
1/2 cup flour
1 envelope brown gravy mix : (I buy mine in bulk at the wholesale club, so I use approx. 1/4 cup)
1 envelope dry onion soup mix: ( I make my own see recipe below)
2 cups gingerale
Directions:
Sprinkle roast with a little bit of flour (reserve remaining flour) Place in slow cooker. In separate mixing bowl, combine soup mix, gravy mix, remaing flour and ginger ale. Mix well. Pour over roast. comver and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours in a slow cooker. Serve with mashed potoates or noodles.

4 teaspoons beef bouillon granules (you can use low sodium if desired)
8 teaspoons dry minced onions
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper

May be a dumb question, but do you salt & pepper the roast as usual, & are you using self-rising or all purpose flour? Sounds delish.
ReplyDeleteGreat questions! I use regular flour. You can season the roast before cooking anyway you like best, it'll turn out yummo. I used to use salt and pepper before cooking it, but am playing around with less salt in my cooking and letting family add their own at time of serving. It is not easy to stop salting all my cooking!

Can you also add other ingredients such as carrots, potatoes, mushrooms?

Okay that was amazing! Me and my husband just made it, and it turned out great! How do we make a little more of the gravy sauce, bc we didnt have a lot of extra?
ReplyDeleteThanks Alli! I've only tried this one time, but I doubled the flour, gravy packet and gingerale and it worked out great. So I think that should work for you. (I did not double the onion soup mix).

Is the recipe the same if the roast is frozen? Or does it need to thaw out before putting it in the crock pot?
ReplyDeleteThe cooking time is what changes in the recipe if it is frozen. It'll take alot longer in the crockpot from frozen. Not sure on the time change though, but I assume several more hours.
