Christmas Gifts You Should Purchase AFTER the Holidays!

Today you find yourself a few days before or after Christmas.  The last thing you want to think about is next years holidays, but  the clearance sales on holiday items are before you and it's the perfect time to take advantage of the savings!.

I wanted to share a few gift ideas that I like to buy after the holidays when things are 50 -75% off and tuck away till next year. They make great neighbor, teacher, or coworker gifts, where its more the thought that counts, and not your wallet! These are just a few of the many possibilities!

Clearance Items to buy are:

1) Holiday themed oven mitts and cookie cutters:
I picked up about 6 oven mitts from Dollar General for 25 cents each! I got a pack of 6 wooden spoons for a dollar too!  The Cookie Cutters were about 50 cents each. So without adding the pouch of cookie dough I haven't even hit $1.00 for the gift!

2) Holiday Themed Paper Plates & Cups:
I picked up some holiday plates, cups & napkins for 75% off after the holidays, and tucked them away. I spend about $3.00 dollars total on this gift: Wrapping them together for a friend with the following tag: "Tonight let our family do your dishes, while we send you our Christmas Wishes!"

Jan's bonus gift: Holiday napkins are great for cutting out the pictures from them and modge podging them onto ceramic tiles from the hardware store for some cute drink coasters. I received them from a dear friend last year. She had glued cork on the back of the tiles. Pick up some cute holiday napkins on clearance and tuck them away for this cute gift!

3) Packs of glitter in holiday shapes as well as miniature holiday items
These cute I spy ornaments were from my blog last year.  Wait till items go on clearance and buy them to make these cute ornaments for next year.

What's your favorite clearance holiday items to buy?

  1. I was at JoAnne's the other day and they already had Christmas items at 70% off. I buy after christmas stuff about every 2 to 3 years when I run out. As for napkins, we always buy them on clearance. So you could have cute snowman napkins in July at my house, the kids just grab the first bunch out of the drawer. I bought some cookie boxes on clearance last year and have been using them to put cute gift boxes together for friends, hopefully I'll find more again this year.

  2. see you are better than me, I totally bought holiday pencils last year for my son's class, and forgot all about them. Lucky for me I put them in my holiday wrap and saw them last minute, after i had already bough new ones at full price;p

  3. I always pick up the holiday bath items- lotions, soaps, little girls’ manicure sets, etc. My daughter’s birthday is 2 weeks after Christmas, so she gets some of them (she’s 6, she doesn’t care!) and I save the rest for next year. :-)

  4. Hey Jan - Hope you don't mind a short (& funny) story. Yesterday was Christmas backing day for me. I had some chicken canning in my pressure canner, gronola cooking in the over and a couple batches of cookies ready to cook. I figured while I was in the kitchen waiting for things to get done, I'd whip up some of that Sugar scrub you posted. I was making some for Mom, SIL, and BFF. So got my mixing bowl out dumped the sugar in, pour the shower gel in and started stiring with the wooden spoon. Not funny yet? Okay, how about I then licked the spoon. Yes, that's right. Too much going on at once, thinking about cookie dough or just spacing out. This 50 something yr old licked a soapy spoon. THAT hasn't happen for quite a few years and will NEVER happen again. Hope I made you laugh? Merry Christmas!
