Skillet Meal: Pizza Pie

Skillet Meals

A deliciously fun version of a deep dish pizza, this Pizza Pie is baked in a cast iron skillet in the oven and is stuffed with layers and layers of your favorite flavors, topped with a cheese crust and baked to a golden brown. This homemade pizza goodness can be done in 30 minutes or less!
Cast Iron Skillet Pizza

I am all about quick and easy dinners, so please feel free to use a store bought pop open pizza dough for a quick short cut on a busy night. I used my 2 Ingredient Instant Pizza Dough and rolled it out to about a 12 inch circle, enough to fit into a 12 inch cast iron skillet.

Feel free to customize your pie filling with your favorite meats and vegetables. I made a 4 meat pizza pie.

Skillet Pizza Pie

Ingredients:
1 (12 inch) pizza dough (homemade or store bought)
1/4 cup tomato sauce or pizza sauce
10 slices deli ham
8 slices salami
pepperoni enough to preference
1/2 lb. cooked and crumbled sausage
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Optional fillings:
Any pizza toppings such as: sliced onions, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes

Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Spray non stick cooking spray lightly into skillet
Lay pizza crust into pan, pressing lightly along bottom and up the sides to remove any airpockets.
Prick bottom and sides of crust with a fork.
Bake crust for 5-10 minutes till it is LIGHTLY baked through and just barely browning. Remove from oven.
Layer Sauce in bottom of crust.
Layer meat toppings
Layer optional vegetable toppings
Layer cheese on top
Optional: Put a few pepperoni slices on top of cheese
Bake at 425 degrees for 15-20 minutes till crust is golden brown and cheese is melty and lightly browning on top.
Slice and serve warm.

  1. Jan, we make deep dish all the time and one thing I like to do is season the crust on the underside. I know it sounds strange but I love having a flavorful crust. Also one thing we like to do is spread garlic butter on the crust to flavor it. Otherwise it's exactly the same. I'll give you another tip. When you make garlic bread, mix some powdered cheese into the butter before you spread it on the bread to bake.
