Roasty Toasty Cheese Dip, a reader named this dip for me when I asked for ideas, so thanks to all of you for pitching in!
Jan's Dip Tip: If you can, bake and serve warm dips in cast iron skillets. It retains heat for a long time. Also, everyone loves food from a cast iron skillet! It just looks great, and they will automatically know this is a good one! Presentation is everything, right?
Jan's Tweeks: ok, so I am giving you the original recipe below. It was adapted by my local newspaper from whiteonricecouple.com. I did even put in a few additions of my own: I added in 2 teaspoons granulated garlic (not garlic salt), and 1 Tablespoon italian seasoning.
Roasty Toasty Cheesy Dip
Makes 4-6 servings.
1 (8 oz) block of cream cheese, softened
1 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tomato diced
optional: 1 medium sweet onion, diced. (about 1 cup)
- Preheat oven to 350°
- Grease a 6 inch cast iron skillet or baking dish
- In a bowl mix together all ingredients except the tomatoes, until smooth.
- Pour mixture into baking dish and spread evenly.
- Top wtih tomatoes
- Bake for 45 min. or until golden and bubbly. Serve warm with good bread or crackers.
