Removing Rust Spots from Kitchen Knives

Removing those rust spots from your kitchen knives is easier than you think! If you are like me, you or your "helpers" Let your knives dry with water drops on them that sat too long and turned to rust.

You can still use them, but everytime you look at them it bothers you.

With just one ingredient in your refrigerator you can remove those rust spots permanently!

  • Lemon Juice
  • paper towel or kitchen towel
  • Cookie sheet or cake pan with edges

  1. Choose a pan with sides that is large enough for your knife to sit flat all the way across it.
  2. Place paper towel in pan and pour lemon juice over the towel till it is dripping wet.
  3. Carefully wrap the paper towel around the blade of the knife.
  4. Place wrapped knife in pan and pour a bit more lemon juice in pan if needed so the knife stays moist.
  5. Let Knife soak for 4-6 hours
  6. Remove paper towel from knife.
  7. Using a kitchen scrubby (any kind will work), scrub the rust spots till gone.
  8. Rinse and dry knife carefully.

Jan's Tips: It should not take hardly any scrubbing to remove the rust, mine just come right off with a gently scrub.

  1. great tip.
I must say tho that my knives don't get rust spots so must be certain kinds.
Looks like you're using S.O.S. pads or something similar. I cut mine in half and store in ziplock baggie cause normally I don't need to use a whole scrubber so it saves and once I do use a pad; if still in good shape, I lay my pad on a small Styrofoam plate and store in the freezer which also makes the S.O.S. pads last much longer

    1. Great idea! I actually rarely use these steel wool pads, but it was perfect for a little "swipe" of the knife! I'll have to remember your tip the next time I pull one out!

    2. when I buy and bring home a new box of scouring pads I cut them in half right away, put in baggie and store under my sink so next time I need to use a scouring pad they are already cut and ready to use. Some of the pads I do cut into 4 sections for some of those so called smaller jobs.
Enjoy your day and have a wonderful weekend and a great Mother's Day
